METROPOLIS
Our feature-length film will be an anti-commercial, a negative production, a showcase of the shadow that exists underneath the green grid of the metropolis.
We expect the film will either rewire your conception of urban reality,
or,
Remind you of the urgency with which we all must finally make a choice: to continue on our current path or definitively leave it behind forever.
The narration will be broken up into segments covering:
- Train network
- Electrical grid
- Food importation
- Water system
- Other material aspects of urban survival.
Much of the film will utilize time lapse shots and archival news footage in order to reveal the bio-political movements of metropolitan order, authority, and control.

WHY SEATTLE:
The metropolitan area of Seattle is filled with over three million people. It is a globally networked city that prides itself on sustainable development and social harmony. What does it take to assure the continuity and survival of Seattle?
This is the question we will answer.
We will show the metropolitan network as it is: how it works and what it looks like. We will present everything that keeps Seattle fed, washed, and working.
We will reveal the lie of the sustainable city logically and systematically.
WHY METROPOLIS:
In Fritz Lang’s classic, METROPOLIS (1927), the rulers of the city and the workers of its sewers come to an understanding at the end of the film. The workers will act as the body, the rulers will act as the head, and the intellectual will act as the heart.
Our film will destroy this broken harmony forever.
WHERE IT WILL BE:
Metropolis will be completed by September 2012.
The film will be screened in Seattle for two weeks and then brought down the West Coast of the United States. Upon the completion of this short tour, METROPOLIS will be made available for free online.
