INTRODUCTION:

This year much of of the Village Building Convergence was captured on film in order to inspire other communities how to create VBC-like events and projects. You may have noticed film crews around, or even been interviewed. Now alchemy is in the process, as this footage is being transformed into a movie. Rather than a documentary, it is more of a recipe book suggesting ways other areas can create their own community-building events, and why they might want to.

DESCRIPTION:

To those not familiar with Portland’s Village Building Convergence, this film is a great introduction. To those already moved to action, this film will be a tool-kit of how their communities might create safer, more beautiful neighborhoods through art, natural building, and music. Following the adventures of a woman’s first visit to the VBC, the movie shows not only what goes on at the 10-day event, but also discusses why community is important, ways to go about strengthening them, and ideas for how to have fun with your neighbors. This film will highlight the many ingredients that go into a VBC, and encourages communities to start their own projects or events that will build bonds amongst people and green the areas they live.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE:

This film an independent educational film. Designed to be inspiring, entertaining, yet educational, we will be reaching out to many universities, as well as permaculture, natural building, and sustainability programs. There is potential to reach many people with the message of the VBC and creative ways to build community and make areas more environmentally and socially friendly to live.

However, as an independent, grass-roots film, we need your help to make it happen. Through a Kickstarter Campaign, we are working to raise $6000 to help cover most of the production costs. Once the costs are covered, all funds from the film will go to The City Repair Project to help on going funding for the Village Building Convergence and other important projects of The City Repair Project.
